And so the adventure begins. In true fashion Russ and I were running
late due to everyday life situations and forgetfulness. After leaving late we forgot Russ’
guitar case and had to go back home to get it. Needless to say, my mom drove like Mario Andretti to get us
to the airport on time.
We arrived just under an hour before our flight left
but international travel is different.
We were able to check 3 bags successfully and then a time limit hit and
the last 2 bags were checked through using an over ride. We will see if they land with us in Abu
Dhabi but if not, inshallah. We
were allowed to jump line for our security check where my carry on bag had to
be checked individually because I was carrying injectable meds for my
psoriasis. They did not open the
cooler which I had taped shut, but rather wiped the entire outside with some
type of wet wipe. I noticed a few
spots on the cooler turned a light brown but this was obviously not a concern
and I was allowed to take it through.
We were able to make the flight which took off Tuesday, August 7 at 5:05
p.m. headed to Chicago. We
connected in Chicago with our international flight to Amman, Jordan with a few
seconds to spare. I actually heard
“Last call for flight 264” as we were headed to the gate. We flew Royal Jordanian and it was
tight to say the least. We are
both tall so after 12 hours we felt like pretzels as we entered the airport in
Jordan. After a couple of hours
and meeting up with a few other teachers, we boarded for our last leg of the
flight to Abu Dhabi. Russ and I
both had a whole row of seats to ourselves so we could stretch out. We arrived in Abu Dhabi at 12:05 am.
Nirvana travel picked us all up at the airport along
with all of our bags. We had eye scans and our passport stamped and then
whisked away. Luckily all 5 bags caught up with us in AD. My small band of teachers was placed at
the Rotana Beach Hotel where we are being treated like royalty.
After breakfast I went to a local store for sodas,
water, and snacks and I am back in the hotel resting trying to rest and over
come some of the jet lag I am feeling today.
